IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS THAT HAD THE COVID VACCINATION AT FORDINGBRIDGE HOSPITAL
IN THE WEEK BEGINNING 21st DECEMBER 2021
Due to new advice from the UK Chief Medical Officers, The Fordingbridge Surgery will be writing to all patients that had their first Covid vaccination on the week beginning 21st December 2020. This will be to inform those patients that we need to reschedule the second coronavirus vaccination appointment.
The new medical advice is that the second dose of the vaccine remains effective when given up to 12 weeks after the first dose, and should be given towards the end of this 12 week period.
The new guidance will help ensure that as many people as possible benefit from the first dose of the vaccine as soon as possible.
While these patients will need 2 doses of the vaccine to get the best long-term protection from the virus, they will still have significant protection at 22 days after they have received the first dose.
Please be reassured that there are no safety concerns in the new guidance, and it will not impact on how effective the vaccination is in protecting these patients from Covid-19 once the course is complete.
It is important to note that even when patients have received their vaccine, they must follow government guidance on social distancing and wearing a mask, as well as the additional measures in place in their residential area.
We apologise for any inconvenience, there is always a risk that we will need to rebook this appointment, but look forward to seeing these patients for their second vaccine dose at the right time.
